The reasons someone might use a thin client are that it will reduce cost, easy maintenance, ease of use, and security. Thin client software is located on one centralized server. It can be a very cost effective solution for businesses or organizations that need many computers to all do the same thing. The client software or computer acts as an interface, while the network server computer does all the real work.

This means a whole company can run the same program with out it being installed on each individual computer. If a system needs an upgrade it can be done at the centralized server without disrupting other users on the network. The user of the thin client software sees all the data, tools, and features they would on a normal piece of software, while another program running on a remote server does all the work.

Thin client software is often run on a web browser [web based] or remote desktop. Web based allows you to link onto any network or device and get access to your company’s database. This is also secure. You must be an appropriate user to log onto the company’s database from any computer.

Any thin client software can convey input and output between the user and the remote user. This means the computers are distributing information from the central server and user.

Thin client is a new wave of the future. It can also allow employee’s to log onto the system from there hand help PDA’s, pocket PC’s or smartphones. This is very beneficial for businesses that have sales people or employees that are often on the road.
